The national investment council (CNI) is a governmental authority responsible for
attending to the promotion of investment development.

The CNI has been created around the minister in charge of investment promotion who assumes the role of secretary.
It is placed under the authority of the Head of Government who assumes the role of chairperson.

Its work is sanctioned by decisions, notices and recommendations.

The institutional restructuring of October 2006 reinforced the CNI in its strategic role.
The activities of this council are from now on conducted for strategic decisions relating to the investment and for the examination of investment portfolios which are of interest to the national economy.

The permanent members of the CNI are the ministers in charge of the following portfolios:

  • Local communities;
  • Finances;
  • Industry and investment promotion;
  • Commerce;    Energy and mining;
  • Tourism;
  • Small and medium-sized businesses and handicrafts;
  • Tourism, environment and land development.

The Chairman of the administrative board, as well as the General Manager of the ANDI attends the CNI meetings as observers.

The CNI may call on any person because of their skills or expertise in the area of investments.

The CNI meets at least once a quarter and may be called to meet by its Chairman or at the request of one of its members.
