Since its creation in 1967, the INPED has been entrusted with various tasks namely aimed at contributing to the actions initiated by the public authorities in terms of upgrading the national economy.

In 1998, this institute was set up as an EPIC (commercial and industrial public establishment) placed under the supervision of the Ministry for Industry. See the executive decree n° 98-163 of 19 May 1998 establishing the INPED as an EPIC amended and completed by the executive decree n°2002-74 of 19 February 2002

Its tasks essentially involve:   

• Providing study and support services to the supervisory ministry, namely in its industrial restructuring activities and in the creation of associated strategies;  
  
• Using the appropriate means to contribute to activities initiated by the public authorities in terms of upgrading the national economy; 
  
• Ensuring management training of managers and administrators from private and public businesses, particularly those from the industrial sector;  
  
• Conducting any ongoing training activities for improvement and recycling in the areas of management, business language and documentation.
