Standardisation has played a decisive role in the expansion of technical development and
the increase in product exchanges.

By opening the economy to the international markets, Algeria had to completely transform its standards system in order to be in line with the international legislation regarding this, as well as to protect its economy against increasing risks (such as counterfeiting) associated with opening the national market.

The implementation of the Algerian standardisation policy has since 1998 been entrusted to IANOR, a commercial and industrial public establishment (EPIC) placed under the supervision of the Ministry for Industry and Investment Promotion.

More details on this institute’s tasks are available in the executive decree n°98-69 of 21
February 1998 regarding creation and status of IANOR.
